Honeymoon Planning

Well, a week from right now, Brooke and I will be enjoying our honeymoon. After almost a two-year engagement, and months of stressful planning, we’ll finally be escaping to San Francisco. Thanks to the internet, our planning has been easy and fun.

We found our two hotels (Rick’s Bed and Breakfast in SF, Sonoma Creek Inn in Sonoma) online, and through a very cool online reservation service called Open Table, were able to book reservations at Boulevard (in SF) and The Girl and The Fig (in Sonoma). We also reserved our tickets for Alcatraz and a hot-air balloon ride in Sonoma using the web. Finally, we’re organizing a little get-together with some online friends and acquaintances for Friday October 11, for which we used Evite.

It seems amazing that ten years ago, the same kind of planning would have taken months, and involved travel agents, long-distance phone calls, and the postal service.

(By the way, if you’re in the Bay Area and want to join us on the 11th, drop me a comment. And any other sightseeing tips for San Francisco and Sonoma County are also welcome.)

UPDATE: Thanks to another great site, Zagat Surveys, we decided to cancel our reservation at The Girl and The Fig and change it to Cafe LaHaye, whose food is much more highly rated. I guess we’ll find out…

  1. yeah, James and Brooke — you said you were going to be all wired up while you were in San Francisco. Find any unencrypted wireless networks yet? Probably you’re having an amazing time, and are too busy to post.
