The FIBA World Basketball Championship is going on right now in Japan. At a time when the NBA hasn’t started their season, you’d think this would be all over the sports networks. Not in Canada. Does anyone have any idea if any of the remaining games will be broadcast here? The otherwise comprehensive web site for the tournament doesn’t have broadcast schedules. (Go Slovenia!!)

Near as I can tell, it’s not airing in the US either (unless it’s on ESPN 8 – THE OCHO!), probably because until recently, our national team has been TERRIBLE. Of course, since no one in the USA is paying attention, we’re leading Group D (sorry, Slovenia)…
CORRECTION: I found the US TV schedule – it’s at the NBA’s website at http://www.nba.com/wbc06/schedule.html. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the FIBA has a broadcast partner in Canada (I found their broadcast partner list, after quite a bit of digging, and it doesn’t seem to think Canada exists – link: http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/06_wcm/mediCent/tvBroaCast/fe_mediCent_tvBroaCast.asp?selNodeID=693&openNodeIDs=693&eventID=3507&roundID=3507).
Hey, thanks M-D. That’s some good sleuthing! Maybe I’ll check out the Bit Torrent sites to see if anyone’s capturing the games.
After two upsets, it will be Greece playing Spain, after these two knocked off the superstar-filled US team and Olympic champions Argentina, respectively.
